About

UOS was created by Michael Blatherwick because he wanted to find a smarter way to raise funds for his cricket club (Papplewick & Linby CC) from local business sponsors.

He was frustrated with the old fashioned, traditional method of ‘selling advertising boards’ and positioning them around the ground.

However, one of the most lucrative forms of fund raising, was sponsorship from local businesses.

Sponsorship would involve getting a local business to advertise on a board which was positioned on the ground for the clubs players and members to see. A typical charge would be £200 per board.

The problems with this were:

  • The boards were expensive to produce, reducing the amount the club actually made.
  • The costs often put off sponsors who might be prepared to make a smaller donation.
  • The boards would rot away and need replacing every few years.
  • There was no incentive for the clubs members to actually use their sponsors.
  • There was no way of measuring the value of the sponsorship for either the club or the sponsor.

UOS solved all of the above issues and in the first 2 years the club raised over £8000!
